For a breathtaking view, heading for Fréhel and Erquy
The 19th Grand Site de France – Cap Frehel and Cap d’Erquy offers itself to you and brings you to one of the most beautiful views in Brittany!
Did you know that? The Grands Sites de France carry out ambitious rehabilitation projects for the management of prestigious and highly frequented classified sites on French territory (landscape, protected site, etc.).
Cape Frehel and its cliffs
When you are in Saint-Cast-le-Guildo, you can’t miss the opportunity to go to the Cap Frehel and its famous lighthouse, which reaches 70 meters high. There, 400 hectares of moorland, an incomparable bird sanctuary and a magnificent panorama of the Emerald Coast and the Fort La Latte await you. The Cap Frehel lighthouse can be visited, dominating the point at 100 meters above sea level and is to this day one of the 5 most powerful French lighthouses. After your visit, climb to the top and simply admire the view.
Discover Erquy and take in the sights!
Continuing your quest for the Great Sites of France, you will arrive at Erquy where several choices are offered: a great walk around the Cap d’Erquy to admire the wild flora, the creeks and small beaches of fine sand by following the famous GR34 from Cape Frehel (which you know perfectly well now after reading our pages). Or a scallop fishing trip from the fish market followed, naturally, by a tasting. For culture and heritage lovers, you can visit the Château de Bienassis, a purely Breton seigneurial residence.
A little anecdote about the village of Erquy: did you know that Erquy inspired Uderzo to position his famous Gallic village on his albums? Thus, Asterix and Obelix would be cousins in a way (a little distant, to be honest). Nice, right?!
The majestic Fort La Latte
Whether you are at Campsite La Crique in St Cast, or on the other side at Cap Frehel, you are bound to see the impressive Fort, one of the largest castles in Brittany classified as a historical monument. In season, you can visit it with your family, with your children. In addition to its past and its history, its location already makes it an emblematic place of the Region.
